Revisiting Recess: Strategies for Implementing Physical Activity Breaks During the School Day

School children who receive recess tend to behave better and are likely to learn more.  Recess provides an opportunity for children to participate in unstructured free play, which is essential for keeping them healthy, and helping them reach important social, emotional, and cognitive developmental milestones. However, some studies indicate that children are getting less and less unstructured playtime, especially in disadvantaged communities.

This webinar will highlight strategies for implementing standards for physical education and physical activity breaks throughout the school day.  Speakers will discuss research supporting the evidence-based physical education and offer examples of successful models for increasing opportunities for students to participate in physical activity at school.
