Much of the activity around childhood obesity prevention is taking place at the local level. Counties, cities, schools districts and other legislative bodies either have policies in place or are developing policies to help children and families be more active and eat healthier foods.

Databases and other resources are being developed to track successful local efforts. For instance, the National Association of Counties (NACo) has developed a Healthy Counties Database, which includes model policies, programs and initiatives that counties nationwide have enacted to promote wellness and help prevent childhood obesity.

We encourage you to use resources like NACo’s database and to alert the center about other useful local policy resources by contacting us.
