Let’s Get Physical: Being Active to Reverse Child Obesity

The local school wellness policy requirement, established by the 2004 Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act, has compelled schools to adopt policies for physical activity and nutrition education. These policies provide a means for schools to address additional aspects of the food and physical activity environment – from guidelines for school parties to recess time to physical activity breaks during the school day. However, many school wellness policies need to be strengthened and better implemented, especially with regard to goals for physical education and activity.
This webinar will highlight some of the recent progress in implementing local school wellness policies across the country and illustrate the positive health outcomes associated with these efforts. It will also offer strategies to help schools better integrate physical activity into the school day.
