In collaboration with researchers, advocates and other partners at the local, state and national level, the center identifies and promotes the most promising strategies to prevent childhood obesity through policy and environmental change. The center places special emphasis on reaching children most affected by the epidemic and its health consequences based on race, ethnicity, geographic location and socioeconomic status.

The RWJF Center:

  • synthesizes the science and best available evidence on childhood obesity to ensure that prevention policies and activities are built on what works;
  • educates policy-makers and advocates about which national, state, regional and local policies are most effective in preventing childhood obesity, especially in the communities hardest hit by the epidemic;
  • develops capacity and leadership in the movement to prevent childhood obesity; and
  • advances effective communication strategies to build political will for the changes needed to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic.
